Why I think Messi exiting Barcelona is the right thing to do?

Messi joined football at the age of 13 and has continued to play for only one club all his life until recently! Sounds a lot like relationships and people right. As humans we do everything in our capacity to nurture and strengthen our relationships and our career. Messi has always been considered as the Main Man for his club and there are numerous articles written about his association with the club. I personally admire the player and the human Messi is. If I were to list down life lessons to learn from him and his game, there would be plenty.

Recently, Messi decided to leave Barcelona and move the leading club Manchester City which is managed by Pep Guardiola.

The striking announcement made by the football player has left the football fandom agitated. Messi has always expressed the desire to end his career in his home club Barca. However the recent situations in the club and the buyout clause is what impacted his decision. Messi has always been vocal about the developments in the club and how he wasn’t happy with a certain things. A better opportunity, how he felt he was treated and few things in the past. All these gave him a good reason to finally exit Barcelona.

This exit phase of Messi is similar to what happens to our relationships and career. We invest the best of ourselves into learning, developing and performing. We acquire the needed name and fame too. Similarly in the case of relationships too, we invest all our effort, emotions and feelings to nurture a bond. Eventually we receive love and care in return and the balance in relationships is what makes it a beautiful journey.

What do you when it stops working for you? You express and share your thoughts about it, similar to how Messi has done on multiple occasions. You communicate, look for solutions, analyze and do all that you can to make it better. Then one fine day, when you comprehend it doesn’t add value to you or makes you happy. You then finally decide to close the chapter and unveil a new one!

I’m sure there are a lot more technicalities to Messi’s exit from Barcelona which an amateur like me cannot comprehend.. However as someone who believes in exploring options and working through things, I personally feel, this is the right thing to do.

Whether it’s a good decision or not, only time will tell but Messi chose to move away from what made him unhappy despite numerous attempts and hard work.
