Skin Care and How?

We are always fretting over how we look to how we dress. We invest in the best of brands when it comes to our apparel and our cosmetics! You surely must have heard of the saying, “beauty is skin deep”, well that does indicate towards a person’s character however it also means that you have to take care of your skin from within. Here are a few things that you need to keep in mind when tending to your skin.

Your skin produces collagen, which is the most important factor in having a soft, supple and young looking skin. Just like our other body parts begin to rust when not taken care, similarly, the collagen production by the skin also reduces with age, leading to wrinkles.
Here are few tips, on how you can have a younger and healthier looking skin and keep the production of collagen constant in your skin:

Citrus fruits such as orange, kiwi, lemon, guava, grapefruit, and vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and capsicums are rich, natural sources of vitamin C. Other vitamin C-rich fruits include papaya, cantaloupe and strawberries

Consume Vitamin C – According, to studies, women who consumed food rich in vitamin C in their middle age, have a healthy skin. It helps with the production of collagen. Hence, it’s vital that you consume foods rich in Vitamin C. Citrus foods and green leafy vegetables are some of
the best sources of Vitamin C.

A hat, sunglasses, stole and a sunscreen is a must when in the sun.

Stay Away From Sun Rays – It is known that the sun rays contain UV rays that have a lot of harmful effects. These UV rays destroy the collagen fiber over a period of time. We obviously have a lot of running around to do on a regular basis hence it is sometimes the sun is unavoidable. Hence it is always advisable to use sunscreen with at least a 50 SPF and also wear sunglasses to avoid the damage to the eyes.

Take Retinol – Retinol is also found in foods rich in Vitamin A1 such as oily fish, liver, cheese and butter. You can apply retinoid creams as they boost the formation of collagen. These are usually prescribed creams however there are some over the counter creams available with less dose of retinol. You can use them however I would suggest to invest in a good dermatologist for longer care and guidance.

Too Much Sugar = Damage – Too much sugar can lead to skin disaster. Excess sugar in your blood, leads to the production of advanced glycation end products which attaches itself to lipid and proteins. Probably too scientific for us to understand however the reducing sugar intake helps in multiple ways, most important one being, helping in weight loss.

Exfoliate – You should exfoliate your skin daily to remove the dead cells from the outer layer of the skin and makes your skin look younger and fresh.

Cleanse,Moisturize and Tone your skin.

Follow a Skin Regime – Taking care of your skin should be a daily ritual like having a bath or eating a meal. It is beneficial if the same habit is inculcated in our kids too. Cleansing and moisturizing skin daily is a must

Diet – Every time I had a pimple, my dad would say my stomach is upset. As I grew up, I realized the association between a good digestive system and your skin. They say, you become what you eat. Hence a healthy, balanced diet is extremely important for a good, glowing skin. You are what you eat after all.

Hydrate – When I was being treated for gallstones, I was asked to drink a bottle of water before every meal. Keeping yourself hydrated is extremely important for your body including your skin. They say every individual needs to have at least 8 glasses of water everyday. So go on, grab that bottle of water. You can even do variations with water.

The last one is not a tip, it is a “must do” thing for all of us out there. No amount of antioxidants, detox waters are going to help us if we bottle up stress and surround ourselves with negativity. So, no matter how tough it is, let go of the stress and everything that makes you unhappy. Follow a hobby, it could be anything from DIY to painting to cooking etc. Indulge in exercise, as perspiration opens up pores of your skin and helps you maintain a healthy skin.
